Kimberly Gatesman (American, b. Palmer, MA 1982) received her BFA from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (2005), and a masters in Arts Administration from Boston University (2009). She works as a colorist and digital printmaker for Riverside Art in Somerset, MA, and she maintains a private studio in Swansea, MA where she works, tinkers, and experiments with traditional painting and printmaking processes.

A quick statement about my work overall…
First, I care about how works are made, not just why…and even sometimes more than the “why”. I believe in technique, process, and craftsmanship. In short, I am a maker. The avenues for my self-expression change and evolve, so I often work in series. Each series, whether it resides in the practical realm such as the continued development of studio equipment, or firmly seated in the world of Art, is an open-ended body of work encompassing a particular fascination. I have too many curiosities to work in a single style or focus on a single driving force.
Currently, my PRINTMAKING involves experiments with alternate takes on existing processes while exploring scientific visualization and physics, with a specific interest in static electricity and magnetism.

My PAINTING has been focused on the rocky coast of South Eastern New England, but I have tinkered with architectural paintings, as well as self portraiture. More recently my work has taken a more expressionist/impressionist turn toward more ethereal subjects of moving water and clouds. I’m not entirely sure where it’s going, but it’s a path I am willing to follow and wander along for a bit.
